English:
I work with sculpture, installation, and with site-specific art projects. Over the years I have explored various materials, such as stone, photography and metals. My approach has gradually changed, so that now site and context will be decisive for my choice of materials.
Also, as in later years I have become increasingly more conscious of the environmental footprint my work leaves behind, I prefer to
work with living plants and other degradable materials. Formats I have used in the past include works on walls and in rooms and permanent commissions, and recently also temporary and degradable projects, in which each work of art will gradually disintegrate and disappear. I am motivated by the idea of giving back what human activity has taken from nature for centuries. I try to acquire knowledge – with respect to science and scientific studies - that might support my thinking and my projects. I am fascinated by the fact that nature is both threatening and threatened. Work related to the qualities of plants, as well as their effect on the environment, is a reoccurring theme in my work. https://www.pikene.no/irene-rasmussen-from-seed-to-sim/
