Shipyard Gardens- From Contaminated Ground to Fertile Soil

The Scrapyard Gardens is one of three garden locations at the shipyard site. It is situated at the north end of the ship yard area under the Tromsø Bridge. Boats lay by the pier to be maintained and repaired. You can hear the constant traffic from the Tromsø bridge above.
All kinds of metall and marine material is disposed. Structures and shapes become parts of the scra-pyard garden. According to north -norwegian tradition, use and reuse especially managed by women is an importaint part of northern excistense. The scrap yard garden pays tribute to this auster tradition in addition to the phytoremedia-ting project. The ground is highly effected by the mechanichal and industrial activity and has levels of zink, copper and led beyond accep-ted values of pollution.
